MCh(PASP) Training Programme

There are currently a number of newly qualified, fully accredited consultant plastic surgeons who are committed to the NHS, but who are unable to develop within the public sector. Within the first six months of qualifying, these fully accredited plastic surgeons:

1. Have no private practice

2. Have no support

3. Can't get operating time in Private Hospitals

4. Waste time, effort and money setting up a practice

5. Are fully committed to the NHS except for one clinical session per week

6. De-skill very rapidly

The NHS does not currently offer any practical training in aesthetic plastic surgery, meaning that the talents of these highly educated and qualified plastic surgeons is at risk of going to waste.

However, a new supervised training scheme is in action and designed to help newly accredited plastic surgeons develop within the private sector. It is University based, linked to Anglia Ruskin University via the Post-Graduate Medical Institute.

Upon completion of training and success at a Viva examination, a Degree is awarded to the aesthetic surgeon.  The first mentored surgeon started in January 2009.  The mentored aesthetic surgeon is known as the Hackett Fellow, in honour of eminent aesthetic surgeon Michael Hackett FRCS, the best known aesthetic surgeon in the U.K. during the 1980's. Prior to his premature death in 1991, he trained most of the current senior consultant plastic surgeons at some time in the U.K. and was internationally recognised and renowned for his educating skills in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He also became the President of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).

Interested patients will receive supervised surgery at much reduced prices.  Patients who would like to benefit from aesthetic surgery and cannot afford the prices of top surgeons, but who want to remain “safe” are welcome to apply for consideration.

Despite the low cost, patient safety is at the forefront of the whole system. High quality plastic surgery will be available to those who may not previously have been able to afford this high level of expertise, potentially putting them at risk of complications from "botched" operations.  The costs for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery will be less than any other reputable provider of cosmetic surgery in the UK, and probably less than any reputable unit abroad, but with the peace of mind for patients that comes from considerably more safeguards and a backup facility on offer to the patient.

Patient Testimonial

"For years I had always dreamed of having a Tummy Tuck to give me back the shape I had before my three children, but my main concern was finding a safe, reliable and reputable surgeon, and the second was affordability.  Luckily, I was directed to the mentoring scheme, and had my tummy tuck with not just one fully qualified surgeon but two!  I can't begin to say what a brilliant experience the whole journey has been, from start to finish.  The care and the professionalism has been excellent, I could never have expected this level of care from a standard high street clinic.  I've got the body I have always dreamed of, at a fraction of normal commercial clinic prices, with excellent aftercare.  I recommend the scheme to anybody who wants trusted, excellent plastic surgery results, and wants to save money the safe way!  Thank you to everyone and to Professor James Frame, especially.
